DUTY ULAMA IN THE PRESENCE OF LEADERSHIP CANDIDATES
Oasis of Faith: Buya Yahya

O Ulama, you in the midst of the people are lanterns who must light their way. Determinants in the midst of their confusion, a sip of water while their thirst and heart conditioning when they are depressed. Then you must not make them confused, erratic, chest tightness and ultimately hostile to each other.
In front of you are prospective leaders who are ready to compete and compete to find supporters for their victory. Not everything they do is right and not everything they do is wrong. When the prospective leaders are right to win there is no concern for this people.
However, when they make mistakes the victims are the Ummah. So here the function of the cleric must be clear as the teacher of the people and teachers of all prospective leaders without exception.
You are responsible before Allah Subhanahu wata’ala if he is careless in their steps. You must appear as a real teacher. Your value is very expensive, your function cannot be exchanged for rupiah, buildings or promises of prospective leaders.
You must be a guide for all of them towards good leadership. You must be close to everything. Because they are all servants of Allah Subhanahu wata’ala who also longed for the paradise of Allah Subhanahu wata’ala.
But sometimes blind to the road. You do not make them further away from the ulema, because your function is closed by the attitude of support to support you is wrong. Especially if the support you provide is in return for material. You may not create a dividing wall with an impartial role. Especially if you side with you because of personal interests or boarding schools and your foundation. You take sides not because of the good you see for the people and future leaders.
Teach them honesty and sincerity to Allah Subhanahu wata’ala. Love them, because their path is very steep and full of temptation. If they or anyone of them who becomes a leader far from you, then really worried they really fall into delusion.
Scholars and leaders must be close. Near the rhythm of longing for Allah Subhanahu wata’ala. Clerics are close to leaders because they want to guide them and not because of the greed from them. The leaders must be close to the ulama in the rhythm seeking guidance towards the blessing of Allah Subhanahu wata'ala and not for buying the ulema for the sake of a rotten plan that is stored in his heart.
Let us come together to Allah Subhanahu wata'ala, asking earnestly and solemnly so that we are given a leader who loves kebaikaan and may Allah Subhanahu wata'ala keep us all from falling into betrayal. The betrayal of the leaders, the betrayal of the ummah who chose the leader and the betrayal of the ulama who did not sincerely guide the people and leaders.
only GOD knows
